July 29, 2005 Beautiful outside-
Beauty on the inside-
I was busy dead-heading my daylilies and found this little surprise. Think he's a second generation of the tree frogs we found in the abandoned pool 2 years ago? ___________________________________ BAAWWWWKKKKKKK!
**************** July 25, 2005 Well, despite my best efforts with the peas and castor oil, the fat old goldfish went to that big aquarium in the sky. (Otherwise known as the septic tank buried somewhere in the yard....) ******************** July 23, 2005 Yes, I've been kind of quiet this last week. What have I been up to? Well, I'm kind of behind on my beads because I've been playing around with this new fusing thing. So I tried to play catch up with ebay beads earlier in the week, and my "real" job just wears me out, so I wasn't much good to anyone. Thursday was my 10 yr olds school physical - you know, the grown up one where they do the infamous hernia check! He was so worked up about that he didn't care if he needed a shot! In fact, when we were leaving the office he got dizzy and almost passed out. He even ended up barfing! Poor kid. Friday it was about a zillion degrees so I took the boys and their friends swimming. Now I always look at the other moms with little kids that they have to watch constantly and sigh with relief while basking in the sun..... Today I thought I better get in gear with my new website. I spent ALL DAY condensing my archives. NOT a fun job. I can't wait till my new site is up and running! I think we're getting close. I have to take new gallery pictures and I want to write something witty for my 'about me' page....Problem is I'm not very witty. Anyone have any thoughts out there and where I should go with this? I mean all I can come up with is, "I love glass and I need to loose weight. Welcome to my life...". Quite the artist statement, don't you think?! Please, please help me with this! Here's a picture of one of my auctions and a picture that I think the beads resemble-
***************************** July 15, 2005 Just when you think you've seen it all, your sons 3 yr old goldfish gets constipated and you have to give it cod liver oil.......
See, we're having a little problem staying upright with all that "gas"! -This little fish we bought 3 years ago has turned into the size of my fist! And we tried guppies....but guess who ate them all..... -Note all the beads in the aquarium - those are the "not so perfect ones but yet not bad enough to pitch out into the woods" ones. ************* July 13, 2005 Where is the summer going? I know it's going too fast~! Let's see, what's been going on - Fusing - I've been giving glass fusing a shot. Expanding my glass horizons. I hope to keep a line of fused glass work on my new website. Imagine...specials all the time?? I have great expectations. But then reality sometimes sets in you know! Anyway - I've seen the preliminary plans for my website and my-OH-my! After this lady is done organizing and cleaning my website, I want her to come here to organize and decorate my house!!!!! Here's a few pendants I've made-
Let's see, what else is new.....Oh yes, new baby birds. Our "Gnat Catchers" (they look like swallows to me) have had a new batch of babies. FOUR this time. The nest is rather crowded. They are still in the ugly duckling stage-
And flowers! I haven't shown off any flowers lately! A gorgeous pink hollyhock-
Yellow Daylily - such a plain name for such a beautiful flower!
And Echanachea - or simply Cone Flower
That's all for now my friends..... ************* July 8, 2005 Confessions Does anyone know the difference between hoarding and simply not having enough room for your stuff? Anyone? Bueller.....Bueller? There must be a fine line between the two. Wouldn't you agree? I know a few posts back I made a little comparison to my husband and the crazy ebay lady. Well, I think it's time for me to fess up now. Hi, My name is Julie and I'm a glass-a-holic. You're looking at Bullseye, Czech, Calentie, Gaffer and a bit of Moretti & Spectrum in this picture..
Moretti and Lausha- And I had just cleaned half of this table off before I took this picture.
Bullseye and a bit of Borosilicate-
And yes, even more glass...Borosilicate and Moretti. not to mention those tubs in the bottom left are filled with spectrum. And the sea grass trays (there are 2 here) are filled with more boro.
Oh, and did I forget to mention the tons of sheet glass I have under my tables? Uroboros, Spectrum, and everything else I used to use when I made windows. Oh yeah, and the two 5 foot tall boxes of pyrex sitting my by my oxygen tanks...... Well, I think that covers it. Oh wait - I guess there are the frits too-
Now the question you are probably asking yourself if you are a bead maker....How the heck does she keep it all straight? Answer: I end up throwing away a few clear rods here and there, but other than that - no problemo! Okay, so maybe that doesn't QUITE cover it. At the Bead & Button show I ended up carting home quite abit of glass for fusing......now where the heck am I going to find a place for that????? Hoarding or simply not enough room? You tell me. Before you answer that maybe you should see one more little picture.... Stringers and bits. I save every little stringer and bit of glass. And this is only the organized stringers and bits....
***************** July 6, 2005 First - you have to check out the fireworks pictures my friend and fellow bead artist took on the 4th in Napa, California - they are fantastic! And her websites *********** And now to a few new beads. I completed these window beads last night (in the dark, on the deck, with raccoons running around - SERIOUS!) Let me know what you think. I just love them - there are so many possibilities. But very time intensive to complete.
The outside layer is black accented with raku frit - you can kind of see it in the following picture. They really are prettier than the pictures of course!
So about the raccoons running around last night.....Well (you know it's going to be a story when I start off with "Well...") Since I was busy lapping my beads last night, I didn't get the chickens locked inside while it was still light. Usually they go in by themselves at dusk so I didn't think much about it. After I was finished with my beads, I turned on the light and walked inside the coop and didn't see them. I called "Chick-chick" and normally they run to me or I at least get a few peeps out of them.....Nothing. Not a sound. So I try looking outside in their coop - nothing. I'm trying not to panic as I walk quickly (running isn't my deal anymore!) in the house to get a flashlight. By that time my husband decides to walk out with me and we hear a big raccoon crash off into the woods. I am looking outside and no chickens. Then I do panic. My husband says he is sure they are inside, just hard to see. And of course he is right. So as we are walking back to the house, the raccoon is already back - very close to our front door. And I'm only 5 stair steps away from him when he decides to make his presence known by crashing off through my newly planted flower garden.... You have seen the little dance people do when a mouse runs across the floor.....Well, I did the BIG COON DANCE when a raccoon runs across my path! This is me- jumping up and down saying "RACCOON, RACCOON!" My husband simply said, "Yes dear, I know." July 5, 2005 Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! Okay - so I know all of you have been waiting with baited breath to see what I found in the family trunk.....Are you ready? Okay, here goes -
Empty.....except for an old Rochester MN travel guide..... Oh, and the smell of mothballs too. Hunter caught the coolest moth last week -
What do you think?! This thing is 6 1/2 inches across! And if you're still following the tick saga - the baby tick pictures are below....WAYYYYY below. And this will be the end of this story because they are getting ready for a trip.... A LONG trip.....to the local landfill.... July 1, 2005 We've been finding the strangest things in the dog house lately.....Here's what I found today-
As you can see from the above picture, the boys have been busy torturing....I mean taming the chickens. Actually, they are very gentle. Chickens are really a very Zen like creature. Very calming and almost hypnotic to watch. I taught the boys to relax completely when they hold a chicken and the chicken (or any animal) can sense that and will in turn be calm. Here's my oldest in a calm Zen like pose-
Kinda blurry, sorry - here's a better picture of my long haired pre-teen. He turns 12 on the 4th of July!
And my baby - not so much a baby anymore! -
The boys have been so busy this summer - Yesterday we were at Adventureland, then today my youngest went to a birthday party and swam all day. A little later he ended up just sitting in the coop, completely zoning out watching the chickens. He told me the chickens were a good idea! Mama went a little crazy at the plant store.....
This tangle that looks like a bunch of weeds are actually about 3 flats of plants. A bunch of lavenders, thyme and other cool aromatic plants. Tomorrow we are off to my crazy aunts house - the one that - oh, I can't even begin to tell you how nuts she is. That's another story for another time. Anyway - she is giving us her family chest. It will be interesting to see what's in it. I can't wait.
