TOTAL Renovation - see below for updates- August 31, 2002 Labor day is upon us and I have a week of vacation. What better way to spend my vacation than manual labor? (better than child labor I guess....) Now that I am using borosilicate glass on a regular basis I need a bigger work area. This changing the glass from Moretti to borosilicate and back every time I make beads was getting old. So my studio is in TOTAL renovation-
Here's the old studio, everything cleaned out but the oxygen and torch. Today's Progress: Work bench was completely ripped out (somehow the old cabinets made it into the kids club-house, go figure) and the wall to the right was ripped out thanks to my husband. I laid ceramic tile on the floor and my body is saying I don't like you very much right now! Anyway, I think we've got a good start. A week to finish? Har-de-har-har! Sept. 1, 2002 Update: Well, my studio area looks so lovely tiled, why not do the hallway, laundry room, bathroom, and foyer too?! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The laundry room is finished. I think my body has went on strike. It doesn't like this work, it would much rather be making beads! Sept. 2, 2002 I've found something I hate doing more than laying tile-~GROUTING~ Sept. 3, 2002 Today was 'spackle & prime' day. Not too bad now. The room is starting to look much better. The wallpaper I picked has to go back. I just can't decide on the color. I want something rather bold, but yet the nice white walls make the room look so much bigger. ??????
It's getting there....... **************************** Lil' Doggies on my Mind Sept. 13, 2002 Now that my boys are getting older they don't like to snuggle so much and mom doesn't get her nurturing fix. SO....what to do? Get a new little house dog to follow me everywhere and snuggle with me and lick my face! We've narrowed to down to a Yorkshire terrier or a Yorkie mix. I've been going to the local dog shelters and have also signed up to be an 'adoptive parent' of a rescued Yorkie. "Rescues" save dogs from puppy mills and abusive owners, breeders, etc. (BTW-did you know that when you buy puppies from a pet store, chances are you're getting a puppy from a puppy mill? Not a good situation.) Hunter wanted a Chihuahua! He definitely said NO to a poodle. He says they may be small at first, but they get HUGE. And they are for rich people. I don't know where he gets these ideas! My husband Ok'd a Pomeranian! If you knew my husband, you would definitely laugh at this statement. But I guess his grandmother used to have a Pomeranian.....It still makes me laugh! Anyway, I'm anxiously awaiting my new little arrival. I hope we find her soon! Renovations update: The new worktable is built. I'm going to tile it tonite. (I do believe my husband built this bench strong enough to hold an elephant!)
********************************* Hey, where the heck did that new workbench go?! Oh wait, there it is, under ALL THAT STUFF!
Only 1 torch hooked up at the moment, but that's enough to make beads with!
