Attack of the Killer Slipper

Yesterday the subject of marriage came up. I was telling the kids you should wait until you are 30 to get married, because before that alot of people really don't know what they want. They may think they do, but alot of times they dont. And I told them their dad & I waited till we were around that age before we were married.

Then Hunter says, "Yeah, I know mom. Dad already talked to us about this. He says before you are 30, boys just want to have fun and girls are bossy and go, 'yap, yap, yap!"

HHHHmmmmmmmm.....

Happy Birthday to my oldest son

and Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!!

My baby turned 10 today. How time flies when you're having fun!

Here's a bow and arrow he got for his birthday - He's a cool dude now!

Every year we get a funny gift of socks or something like that. (the boys just LOVE it....NOT)

Here's my youngest son (Captain Longjohn) modeling the gift one of my 10 yr olds gifts!

And here's another picture of how annoying little brothers can be when you're trying to act cool-

Better Write it Down!

July 13, 2003

Yes, my 10 yr old son actually made himself breakfast! I tell you, that kid is helpless! When he grows up, he better have money so he can hire himself a chef and butler to take care of him!

My 8 yr old, on the other hand, is pretty self sufficient. He can manage to make himself something to eat. He can even operate the microwave.

My oldest - Well, the other day I had him make his own lunch and it required the microwave. So here I am, helping the helpless (while painting the basement - I'm a woman of many talents.) When the microwave was finished, he yelled down to me, "Food's Ready!". "Well, take it out of the microwave!" I replied.

Then he said.........."Well, how do I open the microwave door?!"

Yep, that pretty much sums up my 10 yr olds talents in the kitchen.

Bugs & Such

When I was little, I used to collect bugs. Mostly caterpillars that eventually turned into butterflies or moths. There was never enough containers to hold my caterpillars, so I ended up using a dresser drawer.....much to my mothers dismay when she discovered butterflies flying around the house.

Now my boys are very interested in bugs also. Ichthyology I believe it's called? Anyway, times never change. There are never enough Glad Ware containers for the boys to collect their bugs. And their bug of choice isn't  pretty butterflies.....but mostly SPIDERS! The one bug (besides bees) that terrifies me.

So this morning I am up at 5 am getting ready for work and I grab a Glad Ware container to put my lunch in. I take the lid off and notice something inside.......Spider eggs! 2 big egg sacs!

Note to self: Talk to these boys of mine tonight and tell them NOT to put containers back in the drawer when they are IN USE!

Pool Cleaning Day

If these kids want a pool to swim in, they are gonna have to CLEAN IT OUT first! Yech!

And talk about a bunch of whiners!

They will get into the creek and have a huge mud fight. Covered head to toe with muck!~ But get in a pool with a few leaves to clean out and they are TOTAL whiners about it!

Update - guess who ended up cleaning out the pool? Two guesses and the first ones doesn't count!

Lazy brats!

Confessions of a Challenged "Bead-Naming" Beadmaker.

I must admit, the hardest part of this bead business for me is NAMING the beads! I spend so much time in a mind block when I'm trying to list beads for Ebay or my website, it's ridiculous! I could make twice as many beads if I didn't waste so much time trying to think of a clever description or exotic name for my beads. Lately I've been partial to naming  beads, "Whispers" and "Hydrangea". A little while back everything was, "Opalescent, Opalescence, or Iridescent".

I actually have made a "cheat sheet" full of names to use. I even save every scrap of paper I use to write names and descriptions! I have spent hours just looking through the dictionary, trying to come up with beautiful words. I have went through flower books from the library, but I can't remember what color the flowers are, so I don't use alot of those. I've  also went to the local craft store and have gotten all the paint name lists from the little bottles of acrylic paint. Is this desperate or what?! I guess I should be checking out the poetry books at the library....

It's almost like trying to think of a new password for your computer, only magnify the problem a hundred-fold!

And after I finally come up with a name, I'll look at it later and think, "What a hokey, stupid sounding name!". Like "Crystal Aegean Ocean Tides of Iridescence Sparkle"......... Puleeese! Why can I just write, "I think this is a beautiful bead and I believe you will like it too!" (And would this constitute a name or description?!)

I am a beadmaker, not a poet. I am not gifted with beautiful words. If anyone out there takes pity on me, please send me any beautiful descriptive words I can add to my cheat sheet or ideas of where to go to GET beautiful descriptive words! (Ebay should have a site that specializes in naming and descriptions to help people like me! Hey, now there's a million dollar idea....)

And in the future, please forgive any stupid sounding names I may come up with...........

Addendum:

(Or maybe I can be like Prince and start naming my beads in symbols! Although I guess that didn't work out too well for him.....)

I forgot to mention the Lunar Eclipse the other night. We let the boys stay up late and drove to a secluded spot by a cornfield where it was totally dark and watched the entire thing. (Even little Maxie got to go) I was really neat. It was the first time any of us had seen a Lunar Eclipse. We talked about the moon and stars. And then the boys thought they saw a space ship. It was a fun and special night!
